About the Artist

Ramon Matheu - Pop Artist in

Maryland Eastern Shore artist and Bay Pop Shop founder Ramon Matheu creates Chesapeake Bay-inspired artwork shaped by a lifelong connection to the region’s wildlife, coastal culture, traditions, and environmental restoration.

Inspiration

The Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab has faced pressure from pollution, overharvesting, habitat loss, and the decline of underwater grasses that provide important shelter for young crabs. There have been signs of improvement, but there is still plenty of work to do.

"Crab Protest" imagines that the crabs have finally had enough and decided to speak for themselves. Their message is pretty clear: protect the Chesapeake Bay and give them a better chance at survival. After all, if we want future generations to enjoy Maryland crab feasts, maybe we should listen to the crabs. And maybe... eat more chicken!
